Birchbox UK – May 2013 box – Unboxing

Ooh it’s Birchbox time again! I’ve been really looking forward to getting this box, no real reason I was just hoping for good things! And, oh, I wasn’t disappointed!

This month is the ‘Red Carpet Ready’ theme, but Birchbox is also supporting ‘Fashion Targets Breast Cancer’ so there’s various information regarding that, too. 30% of all e-shop sales in May and £5 for every friend referral will go to the charity – So beauty for a good cause, I like it.

So, here’s to this month’s box – If you don’t wait spoilers then look away now!

Oh just look at that collection of goodies!
This is OPI’s ‘Aphrodite’s Pink Nightie’ it’s a beautiful pink with a sheen to it and I can’ wait to try it, though I think it might be more of a toe nail colour for me. It’s my first ever OPI polish so that’s a massive plus, too. This is an OPI mini and a full size product would be £11.50.
This is the Elemental Herbology Cell Plumping Facial Moisturiser with SPF8 – it’s full of lots of goodness for the skin and it’s going to be a welcome addition to my list of things to try out in my skincare routine. This is a really good sized sample, it’s 30ml and the full size is 50ml which retails at £42!
This gorgeous pot contains B/Attitudes body souffle. I looove the packaging with the gorgeous blue design on the top, it’s so pretty. I opened it up and it’s full to the brim with a thick, gloopy body cream which smells absolutely divine! It’s a gorgeous spicy scent which reminds me of a mixture of incense and cakes – I rubbed a small amount on to my arm which now feels lovely and soft and smells just amazing, I can’t stop smelling it! The sample is 50ml, a quarter of the full size of a 200ml jar which retails at £24 – So another fantastic value sample.
I was instantly drawn to this pretty looking box, it automatically looks good quality and the gold design is such a pretty addition.
The box opens to reveal this clear plastic packaging which is pretty non descript, but neither good nor bad, really. I was expecting the product to be a powder so was surprised when I touched it and it was a thick creamy texture. I’ve swatched it on the back of my hand and it’s got an amazing shimmer to it. I was worried when I read it was meant to enhance a tan as I’m not the tanning type but this really won’t be a problem as it’s just a lovely, very shimmery product for any skin tone.
You can get an idea of the level of shimmer from this picture, but obviously shimmer isn’t always easy to capture,
On to the ‘lifestyle extras’ I got a couple of sachets of Doctor Duve Anti-aging eye firming cream. As ever, sachets are always welcome as an added extra, so these will be great to try out at some point and shall join the legions of sample sachets that I have become the owner of!
And, yes, a second lifestyle extra! This is the Kusmi Detox tea. It comes in a lovely tin, which I like, I like tins. The card says it ‘rids your body of pent-up toxins, boosts your energy and lowers your stress levels’ – If a tea can do that much then it’s worth its weight in gold! I’ll definitely give this a go, I like tea.
All in all, I love love love this box. I’ve not been disappointed by Birchbox, yet, and still not this month. I love the variety, some skincare, some bodycare, a highlighter and a nail product plus some nice extras too. I like that it’s supporting a good cause and I just like everything about this box. And if you’re all about the value, this box holds a good value as far as I can see, easily well over the price of the box itself. Good month, Birchbox!

And this obviously isn't from the person on fb who's taken issue with my saying thattheir box wasn't too bad. Grow up

People can be so mean D': I really like your blog posts (haters gonna hate ^^) x

Hehe thanks Laura, really appreciate it 🙂 xx

How unnecessary! I just read this post and scrolled down to leave a comment saying how much I enjoyed it, but first must say that you, anonymous, whoever you are, are immature and just plain rude.

But anyway, great post, thank you for sharing this. I have been contemplating signing up, and I think this just might persuade me! So thank you 🙂

Thanks Carrie, some people just don't know how to deal with a difference in opinion and seem to feel the need to make it personal – I know I have plenty of lovely readers, though 🙂

It is a great box, isn't it. Some people had quite different boxes, though, it's worth making sure you fill in your beauty profile if you do sign up as they try to make your box suited to your profile (when possible ) – I've really enjoyed Birchbox, though. Glossybox has been a bit hit or miss but Birchbox has been quite consistently good so, if we can afford it, I'll hopefully keep the subscription going :). xx

What a great box. I already have the highlighter i'm hoping i don't receive it so i get the chance to try something new but if i do i think i will do a mini giveaway. I haven't used the other yet. I did a swatch on my finger i should have a play around because have never tried a highlighter before. I can't believe have not got mine yet, neither have i got an email. I'm usually one of the first lol. Think it's something to do with my change in banks (payments been taken though) xx

    • admin May 16, 2013 / 1:57 pm

Ooh I hope you get yours soon.

Fingers crossed you don't get the highlighter but a giveaway is a good idea if you do. Definitely have a look at it, it's got soo much shimmer in it and it's a lovely texture.

I'm going to be doing a giveaway soon, got all the bits bought just got to decide when to start it. About time I say thank you to my lovely readers 🙂 xx

I just had a look to see what i'm getting i get to bloody excited lol. I have exactly the same as you apart from slightly different opi shade and i'm either getting the highligter or a lipgloss. I think the highlighter might make a good base for eyeshadow or even as eyeshadow i will definitely dig it out. Just noticed have got them sachets of expensive cream i will dig them out too. I have a habit of putting small samples and sachets to the back of my beauty cupboard but have started using them now and some have worked wonders for my skin. I stopped using one of them which as honey in which fights adult acne my spots aren't major but since i stopped using it a few came back boohoo so time to dig it out again. I never had spots when i was a teen paying the price now lol.

May as well give the highlighter to someone who will use it more then me especially when have already got one sitting there. Awww that's lovely. I'm wondering which will come first birchbox or my body shop order. xx

Haha you're so impatient, I love the surprise so always try not to find out. Yeah the highlighter may well be good on the eyes, a nice brightening colour. Well maybe you'll end up with the lipgloss and you won't have a duplicate anyway!

Yeah I've got some old beauty boxes full of samples, I'm planning on trying to start using up a few a month and then talking about them on here to make the most of them.

Ooh yeah, we'll have body shop, too, can't wait to tr the lip butter. Xx

    • admin May 16, 2013 / 2:11 pm

My first ever one, too 😀 xx

    • Kate Musgrove May 16, 2013 / 3:17 pm

Laura you won't believe what you have been missing. Fragrance direct full size £3.99 i got two and omg they are so good. I can't justify the rrp but when i so these i grabbed two and now i want more they are really good. xx

    • admin May 16, 2013 / 4:05 pm

Hehe my mum took my son out this afternoon so I put the opi on straight away, it's very pink and I'm not sure it's the sort of colour I'd wear loads But I think it'll be a gorgeous colour on the toes when I have sandles in the summer, yay. They are great quality xx
