I wasn’t sure what to expect this month as, although I avoid spoilers, the lovely Kate over at ‘Sparkle Dust’ told me she’d seen a lot of other subscribers getting items they’d had in previous boxes so we were both not expecting a lot. Thankfully we were both pleasantly surprised and neither of us got any duplicates.
This months theme is ‘Jet Set’ so it’s supposed to contain lots of great products from around the world that would help if we were off on holidays etc.
I got an interesting selection of things, this month, and am impressed with how many items there are included.
First up I got a body lotion by Dead Sea Spa Magik. This is a pretty good sized sample at 25ml and is a really light lotion with barely any smell to it which is said to contain ‘minera-rich dead sea extracts and mud’. The full size of this is 350ml and retails at a very affordable price, for £7.70 so it’s nice that this is an affordable to re-purchase product, if it turns out to be good.
This is the lifestyle extra for the box and is an 8g sachet of Chia seeds by ‘The Chia Co’. These are supposed to be a mega super food and I’ve heard various things about them so it’s interesting to get them in the box. I’ve heard mixed things about them so haven’t tried them yet; there are various suggested side effects as well as the claimed benefits. I do think it’d be interesting to give these a go, though, as all of the sources I’ve read have said the side effects should be no problem in a smaller amount. These retail for a variety of prices depending where you shop but The chia co have just opened a uk shop where you can get these in various amounts and forms for very reasonable prices.
This is ‘VolupTHE Hand Cream’ by Reverence de Bastien. The Birchbox card lists this as costing £12 for a full sized product but I’m struggling to find it online to see how big a full size product is or where it can be bought from (Maybe the birchbox shop once it’s updated?) – This is another 25ml sample, which I think will last for a long time considering the consistency. It’s a light cream that absorbs into the skin straight away and has a delicious, incredibly subtle smell to it, which I can only assume is thanks to the white tea extract and the cotton oil that it contains.
This interesting looking product is the VitaBella Anti-Ageing face mask. It comprises of a little bottle of liquid and a separate little ‘tablet’ which were beautifully presented in a little bag. From what I understand this is a sheet mask and you soak the little tablet in the contents of the bottle in order to ‘dissolve’ it and unravel it before putting it on the face. As such this is only a one use product, which is a shame, but it’s definitely interesting. The full size of this contains four of these bottles so only has four uses and retails at £59 – Definitely not the sort of product I’d be able to repurchase but I’m glad I’ll be able to try it out.
This is the product that came in the little green envelope this month and it’s the Blanc Cachemire Creme de Jour Protectrice. This is a french product and the packaging only has french information on, though the lovely Birchbox team provided us with an information card so we know what the product contains and how to use it. It’s a 15ml sample and the full size costs £54.75, I’m not sure how much product a full size contains but I know I won’t be able to afford it!
In the tradition of leaving the best until last, we have a blush by The Balm. Yup, The balm!! I’ve been really wanting to try some products by them for a while, now (you may remember their highlighter being in my ‘If I had £50’ tag) so this was a Very nice surprise! This is a really nicely packaged, cute little sample and it’s their InStain long wear powder staining blush in the shade ‘Swiss Dots’ which is a gorgeous coral colour (Yay!). I can’t wait to try this out and I Really hope there’s some good The Balm products in the birchbox shop once it’s updated! The full sized blush retails at £21.50 and this is only a little 0.5g sample but I get the feeling that a little goes a long way with this long wearing, pigmented blush!
I wasn’t wowed by this months box but there’s a nice variety of products in there and they’ll all be interesting to use. Other than the blush, though, they’ll mostly go into the list of samples I have to use up, but they’ll each be fun to use once their time comes. Not the best box ever but by far not the worst and The Balm seriously, seriously makes up for the lack of excitement!
Next months box is going to be a collaboration with ‘In Style’ Magazine so I’m really interested to see what comes of that. Looking forward to next month, already!
