Trying to explain to a three-year-old that boys don’t tend to be princesses isn’t very easy…
The other day, after a bath, Ethan was swathed in a towel and I was getting him dry, when he turns to me and says ‘Mummy I’m a princess!’ – Ok, I guess, the yellow towel hanging around him Could pass for a dress but other than that there are some pretty vital things that stop him from being a princess.
Don’t get me wrong, I am totally against gender stereotyping – If he said ‘I’m wearing a dress’ well, fine son, I imagine it will happen, most boys do at some point (there’s lots of dressing up clothes at his new nursery and boys were happy in dresses as well as as spiderman!) and that’s fine. But, a princess does tend to be female, that’s just the way that it is!
Needless to say, I tried to explain it to him as best I could… obviously didn’t work, though, as every time he’s getting dry, now, he decides he’s a princess!
Hehe – He’s so much fun.
