Ok, first things first, yes this review is on a Dettol handwash – It doesn’t sound that exciting, it is ‘just hand wash’ but I think you should hear me out because I’m actually pretty impressed with this stuff!
As someone with a toddler who’s still in nappies I have to wash my hands a lot so my hands get pretty dry with normal hand soaps. Add to that the fact that I have a type of eczema on my hands which makes them really dry and sore and you can see why I really need some moisture in my hands. I have some hand creams which I absolutely love but, despite the fact that my hands Really need them, I forget to use them a Lot of the time!
And that’s why, when I was offered the chance to try out the Dettol handwash with E45 I was very interested to see if it would make any difference.
Put simply, it does.
I’ve been using it for almost a week now and from the first wash I noticed a big improvement in the skin of my hands. The hand wash is quite creamy and it lathers nicely, a little going a long way. The scent is camomile and it’s a nice, but very subtle, smell so it shouldn’t be a problem for those of you that aren’t a fan of strong smells.
When you first use the wash it feels like there’s a bit of a residue on your hands after you dry them but that’s only there for 30 second to a minute, at most, and before long you can feel a really nice softness in the skin of your hands. It’s not as much as if you’d just used a full on hand cream but it’s still really, really good, my hands felt so much softer than normal – Maybe the best way to describe it would be as if I’d used a hand cream a little while earlier in the day.
Ok, so it’s still ‘just hand wash’ but why not have one that can do more than just wash your hands – If you’re here to read parenting things you’ll know how often you have to wash your hands as a parent and if you’re here for beauty you’ll probably love hand creams as much as I do but quite like the idea of a product to top them up in between uses!
My mum has been trying it out, as well. Following some parts of her cancer treatment, last year, she has a real need to keep her hands clean but also stop them drying out so she doesn’t get broken skin etc. As such I invested in a tube of Soap & Glory’s ‘Hand Food’ for her, which she really likes but, like me, she forgets to use it a lot. She’s noticed a definite difference when she’s been using the Detol with E45 and, pretty much, describes it the same way that I do – You don’t get that oily feeling you get when you use most hand creams but your hands definitely feel much softer after use.
Of course, for most of us, it’s not a health concern to have soft hands, but it’s definitely a big bonus!
