MUA: Make Up Academy – Colour Blasts – Review

I’ve had the MUA Colour blasts for a few weeks now and have worn them a good few times so I thought that it’d be a good time to let you know what I think about them after having given them a good test. I’ve actually been lucky enough to get the final three shades, a couple of days ago, so watch this space for a post of swatches for those in the coming week!

If you read my post when I first got the Colour Blasts (HERE) you’ll know that  my initial response was that they seemed good and that the colours were rather lovely. When the colours are applied to the eye, rather than to the firmer skin of the hand as in swatches, they take a little more work to build up the colour; initially they can be quite sheer but you can definitely build them up a bit more depending on the look that you’re going for (I quite like a softer look most days so haven’t built them up a whole lot).

The formula is quite different from a lot of pencil style shadows that you get. The other pencil types that I’ve used have been formulas that are quite thick and set really quickly which make for a long lasting wear-time but does mean they’re not very blendable. The Colour Blasts, on the other hand, are a much creamier formula and you can definitely manage to blend them a lot more which makes them nice to work with. The only down side of this is that they don’t, instantly, last in the same way as other products may. The first time that I tried these they creased and wore off the eye quite a lot but that was without a primer – The moment I started using a primer with them I had no problems with creasing and they lasted really well.
I like these shadow pencils and will definitely keep on using them. I’m really looking forward to trying out the three new shades that I’ve got and seeing what the colour payoff is like with those. As I said, the only downside is that they’re not perfect without primer but considering you can pick up the MUA primer for almost nothing, and it does a great job, that’s not much of a downside at all!

    Hehe thanks Kate

Yeah I really like them – The formula is much softer than other pencil ones but if you make sure to use a primer under them they're lovely. I'm wearing 'Stay' today in fact, it's become a real go to shade when I want a bolder eye liner look but still want a bit of colour on the bit of lid you can see (silly hooded eyes)

    xx
