I was rather excited when I saw that MUA had released a range of matte lipsticks – Their standard lipstick formula is really nice and so I was definitely looking forward to seeing what they’d do in the way of a matte finish.
There’s five shades in the range but I only picked up three (wishing I’d picked up all five, seems silly to miss two out) – At £1 each these are very, very affordable.
This shade is ‘Peachy Keen’
This second shade is ‘Totally Nude’
Lastly we have ‘Pouty Pink’
‘Peachy Keen’ is my favourite of the three shades that I got and it’s also the most opaque (from other swatches I’ve seen it’s actually the most opaque of all five) – I’ve worn this shade already and it’s very different from the way you’d expect a matte lipstick to be. The formula is much more creamy than I expected but it’s also quite thick – It’s not a really flat, matte finish (if that makes any sense) but it does definitely have a matte feel to it, could I maybe use the phrase demi-matte? I really quite like this one even though it wasn’t what I was expecting,
‘Totally nude’ is almost as opaque as the previous shade but not quite – The shade is just too nude for me so I can’t wear it as a full on lipstick. I have been able to wear it just gently patted in to the lips, though, which works quite nicely with the demi-matte formula.
I haven’t tried ‘Pouty pink’ on the lips yet but you can see from the swatch that it’s not totally opaque. I’m not sure how that’ll impact on the overall finish but I do think it’s a nice shade and I will get back to you with more detail about all of these once I’ve had more chance to wear them all.
