Our furry little house guest …

A couple of weeks ago when we were chatting in the den we heard an unholy sounding noise coming from the extension and we knew there was a cat harassing our two. They’re Very defensive and do not like other cats in our garden.

Turns out the cat in question was actually in our Kitchen and it was a female rather than a big scary male which is what normally get them riled up. My Mum picked her up to take her back outside but on doing so she felt how crazily thin she felt.

We’re cat people. We’ve had cats for most of my life and we know them and love them so finding a kitty so thin and so desperate to get food that she was willing to push past our two angry kitties got us all a little worried. My mums husband went inside and grabbed a food sachet with kitty ate in seconds flat, so he got her another and then she polished off a days worth of kibble too. She was one starving little thing.

We thought about leaving her in the garden and hoping she’d come back in the morning so that my mum could take her to the vets to check for a chip but we were worried that our biggest cat would see her off and we didn’t want to leave her out there on her own. As such she spent the night in our extension and we kept our two in the house. She ate lots of food and slept lots on a comfy towel – Poor thing had obviously not eaten in a long time.

We all sound ourselves falling for her pretty quickly as she’s such a sweet, affectionate little thing, we kept on going out to see her just to stroke her and get kitty cuddles. It became quite clear that if she didn’t have a an owner we wouldn’t want to leave her in an animal shelter for any length of time, she loves people and she’d have been soo lonely!

Thankfully, when we got her to the vet, she was chipped and we were able to get in touch with her family. Poor little kitty had been lost for a whole Month, no wonder she was so thin and so hungry! The family came to pick her up that evening and they were soo soo happy to have found her. We all kinda miss her but it’s so lovely to have been able to reunite her with her family.

If you ever find a cat that seems like a stray then it really is worth taking them to a vet as they could have a chip, and an owner who’s really missing them – We were sure that this kitty was a stray as she’d been soo hungry but it turns out she was just Very Very lost.

Similar story with my Raffles, came in our garden every evening and ate the food left out for the foxes. We took him to cats protection who knew him as they had rehomed him, we got a call following the weekend to say they didnt want him back as he had been missing 3 months and they had got another cat. He has now been with us since June 2012 and shows no signs of leaving, just hope when we get the puppy he doesn't get ideas 🙂

That is fantastic that you found this kitty and got her back to her family. It is a lovely feeling to adopt a stray but being to able to find her family must be a great feeling! We are unable to have any pets at the moment, it doesn't stop me buying the magazines though!
