Ok so I know it’s the sort of weather where we’re expected to drink iced coffee and fruit juices, smoothies and ice cold water but if you’re a hot drink lover you’re not going to just stop drinking them because of the weather. I love hot drinks, I love tea, coffee, hot chocolate… mmmm. I drink tea more than any of the others but I do enjoy a cup of coffee from time to time; I came to coffee later in life and now that I like it it’s become a fabulous special treat.
When I was offered the chance to review some of the amazing flavours available from Beanies Flavour Co. I saw the opportunity to make my infrequent coffee breaks even more of a special treat! I’ve not ventured into the world of flavoured coffee very much apart from trying out seasonal offerings at various coffee houses but the idea of being able to have flavoured coffee at home is quite tempting, especially when the jars are only £2.50 each! You can buy directly from the Beanies site or you can buy some of their flavours from Sainsbury’s.
It was really tough to decide upon which flavours to get and I’m already wishing I’d got ‘Cinder toffee’ but I ummed and ahhed for so long that I just had to force myself to decide and get on with it! So here are the flavours I opted for:
I still added a little bit of sugar to the ‘Rich Hazelnut’ flavour, too, as it isn’t one that naturally has a sweetness to it. But with the other three I found that a dash of milk was the only thing that I needed in addition to the coffee itself; which I find quite wonderful because I normally have More sugar in coffee, not less or None! Other than ‘Ginger Bread’ the flavours I’ve got are all quite subtle, which I like, and the thing I’ve found is that it’s more about the aroma than the flavour – You taste the coffee but as you breathe in you smell the additional flavour and that’s how it comes together. Obviously you can taste the flavour in the coffee, too, but only subtly and it’s the aroma that really makes it work. It makes for a really enjoyable experience.
The ‘Ginger bread’ flavour, which I’m actually drinking now, has a stronger flavour so you can taste it more in the actual coffee as well as smelling it. As with all of the flavours I was amazed at how realistic it smells. I thought it’d just be coffee with some added ginger but it doesn’t just smell/taste like ginger, it’s actual ginger bread! And the same goes with the ‘Amaretto Almond’ it’s more than just an added almond flavour, it has that hint of amaretto. The ‘Amaretto Almond’ one has actually made our tea and coffee cupboard smell like biscuits, it’s rather delightful (at least I think so, I’ve not asked anyone else!)
All in all I absolutely love these coffees and next time my Mum pops in to Sainsbury’s I might ask if she can pick me up a ‘Cinder Toffee’ flavour as well. That said an internet order might be a good idea as I could try chocolate… or chocolate orange or when winter comes back I could try some of their array of winter flavours… Yes, Beanies is one of those companies where you really want to just keep trying their products to see what they’re like and, so far, none of them have disappointed.
