Glossybox 'Hello Summer' - July 2017 Unboxing

I cancelled my Glossybox a while ago as I just had too many samples. I do still have quite a lot of samples but am getting much better at using them and I saw that, for July, Glossybox had a product in it that I really wanted so I thought I'd re-sub for a month or two and see how it compares to other boxes at the moment.

If you decide to subscribe, yourself, you can use my referral link which will get you £5 off your first box and will also reward me with points towards a box of my own: http://referme.to/J485y1o

The Curated Combination subscription box - June 2017

I was browsing a discussion about recommended subscription boxes, as I haven't been feeling overly excited by boxes over the past few months, when I saw someone mention 'The Curated Combination' and was intrigued. This box is made by bloggers, for bloggers, it's released in very limited quantities in the hope that the blogger who buy it are inspired to write about what they get. For £12.50 they promise to avoid the foil packets and give products really worth writing about (and it certainly looks like they deliver!).

When the box first arrived I wasn't sure what it was, they haven't invested in chic packaging or fancy branding and you won't find me complaining about that. As nice as pretty boxes are, the contents are far more important!

And here's what I got! (Normally I'd do more detailed photos but kids, sunlight and life, need I say more?)

A health update - Still no answers and even more doctors!

If you're a regular reader you'll be aware that my health has been somewhat of a nightmare for a long time now. You'll also have noticed that my posting has become even more sporadic than it has been in a long time. You wouldn't be wrong to assume that these two things are linked.

My last health update was quite a hopeful one, not hopeful in terms of not being ill, that boat has sailed, but in terms of finding out answers, I didn't have any yet, but I really thought I was close to understanding what was going on, I was wrong. If you'd like to see that post, to further understand the back story, you can find it here

I'm going to try to keep this as, relatively, brief as I can but it's long which, I appreciate can make it hard to read, but I promise it makes it a bit rubbish to live through too. I've put a super quick summary at the end but for more detail keep reading.

My new 'Health Folder' as a way to get everything in order and take back some control of how all over the place everything is

Birchbox UK with Boden Unboxing - April 2017

It's Birchbox time again! It was nice to get the box nice and early, this month, as my box took a little while last month so I didn't post it until rather late. That said it can be nice to get the box late one month and early the next as it feels like you get boxes really regularly, even if you are fooling yourself a little haha.
I liked this month's box and if you do, too, you can sign up using my link which will get you £5 off your first box as well as getting me £5 to spend in the Birchbox shop:

Family Friendly Treats from Hotel Chocolat - The 'Happy Easter Hamper'

Ethan's been really excited about Easter for a while, now, he loves the idea of a time in which chocolate is the sole purpose of celebrating (we don't follow a religion so it's all about the chocolate in our house). Ever since the Hotel Chocolat catalogue fell through my letterbox a few weeks ago I have been excited too and when the lovely people at the company offered to send me something from this year's Easter range I was even more excited.

Birchbox UK Unboxing - March 2017

Birchbox time again and this is a box I've been looking forward to for a while as the product which we already knew about is one that I've been intrigued about for a little while. If you like the look of the boxes that I get then you can sign up using my referral code and get £5 off your first box (and that also gets me £5 to spend in the Birchbox shop!) - https://www.birchbox.co.uk/invite/m6bv3

Amazingly Detailed Dinosaurs from Schleich

When I wrote about the Schleich 'Farm World Starter Set' a few weeks ago I mentioned that I'd really like to get Oliver some of their dinosaurs to add to his, and Ethan's, collection so when I was offered the chance to try out some of the newest additions to the range I just had to say yes. Oliver really loves dinosaurs!

The new 'Skin Kiss' highlighter range from Makeup Revolution

I have another exciting new Makeup Revolution release to share with you today and I have to admit that I've been loving having their new products pop through the letter box, unannounced,  recently as there's been some really outstanding products from the lovely people over at Tam Beauty.

Win a copy of Disney's brand new movie, Moana, on DVD

I will, very rarely, run a giveaway for a product that I've not tried out, or experienced, myself but when I was offered the chance to give away a copy of Disney's 'Moana' on DVD I felt like I'd be letting you all down if I said no.

I've not seen Moana but I have heard so, so much about it. Ever since the film has come out I've seen and heard friends talking about how much their children, and they, enjoyed it. I've had people say that they've had the soundtrack on repeat for weeks and that it's one of the best Disney they've ever seen. As such I can't wait to watch it, myself, but for now I will have to make myself feel better by knowing I'm going to give one of you the chance to watch it instead.

Vosene Lice Repellent Range for Kids - Time to Test

Lice. It's one of those words that fills any parent (or teacher) with dread. It makes you uncomfortable and a bit squirmy because no one likes to think of the little critters, or deal with them. But they are, unfortunately, a fact of life, especially when you have little ones.

We've been using tea tree on Ethan's, for a while, and I can't say if it's a coincidence or if it's worked, but we've not had a occurrence of head lice in over a year so when Vosene offered to send us some of their lice repellent range I was intrigued to see if having the products all in one would be equally as successful, and much more convenient.

My Mum Moments with Hotel Chocolat and win a Mother's Day Sleekster

Hotel Chocolat asked me to do something a bit different, this year, rather than just reviewing one of their products they've asked me to share my 'Mum Moments' with you. They very kindly sent me their Mother's Day Sleekster box, which I will enjoy, as well as asking me to run a giveaway for one of you to win a Sleekster too! If you want to enter the giveaway then you'll find out how later on in the post, I look forward to hearing some of your Mum Moments too.

New Renaissance Lipsticks from Makeup Revolution!

I was very, very pleased to find a package containing five of the new Renaissance Lipsticks from Makeup Revolution on my doorstep yesterday. I was browsing the Tam Beauty website, just a couple of days ago, and these caught my eye so being able to try a few out, and share them with you, made me very happy!

Just as a little mention, I'm working with a new camera so some of my photos are struggling with light and I'm working on how to improve that so please bare with me. You should be able to get a good impression of the lipsticks, still, and the swatches came out perfectly.

World Book Day 2017 with Scholastic

I think you'll be hard pressed not to notice that it's World Book day, today, there are children in costumes, photos of them with their favourite books and posts all over the internet about the best costumes to send them to school in (There's some amazing ones out there), it's everywhere! One thing I didn't know, though, is that it's the 20th anniversary of World Book Day which is really fantastic to think about, that so many people, over so many years, have been inspired to pick up, and enjoy, books.

When I was approached by Scholastic to feature a couple of their books for World Book day it was an instant yes. We love books, and by we I mean all of us. I expect you already know I'm a huge book lover but most of my family is and both of the boys already are too (yes, even the 1 year old)

Scholastic have a special, World Book Day 2017, Book Club (which runs until the 5th May) which has a fantastic selection of books in it. Including those for the littlest in your family up to books for your tweens and it includes so many recognisable characters, such as Wimpy Kid,  and well known authors, like David Walliams, that there's bound to be a book for everyone.

The best thing is is that you can use your £1 World Book Day voucher online (throughout the book club), so even if you can't get to a book shop or an in person book club event then you can still use your voucher! I'm looking forward to helping Ethan pick out another book (or two) when he's home to use his voucher on.

My February Lush haul and first impressions - First Lush order in so long!

I haven't shopped with Lush for the longest amount of time, I don't get the chance enjoy baths due to my health (very hard to get in to the tub, and end up more exhausted after a bath than before) but I have decided that I wanted to invest in some more special stuff so that I can try to start enjoying them again rather than them just being functional.
I saw some of the valentines Lush products on Instagram, and it really got me interested in trying some of them out, re-purchasing some old favourites and also getting some things which I've seen recommended by others bloggers and vloggers.

The 2017 Quick Reads Books - A quick overview and a giveaway

I love books. If you know me you already know that and if you don't know me but have seen my blog or social media then you probably already know that too. Books are my main form of entertainment, of escapism and of relaxation, they are just a massively important part of my life.

Not everyone feels that way about books, though, and that's fine, we don't enjoy the same things. But sometimes people have things that stop them from reading even if they want to - Maybe they have health issues that prevent concentration, maybe they don't have the time, maybe they don't know what type of book they enjoy or maybe they find a long book a bit much to get started with.
And there's where the 'Quick Reads' concept steps in. Every year they commission well-known authors to write short books and they release them for £1 (though sometimes they've even cheaper!) and you can get them in paper form or e-book. There's 6 books, per year, and they make a great starting point for a new reader, or for the person with a busy schedule and only a few minutes to give to reading, or even just for someone who loves books but wants something short and sweet to keep them going.
I love the idea of Quick Reads, and what it stands for, so I was thrilled to be offered the chance to read them all this year. I was, also, accidentally, sent two sets so I also have a full set to send to one of you in a giveaway! (see the end of the post for how to enter)

Our First Thoughts on the Schleich 'Farm World Starter Set'

With the big age gap (almost 6 years) between the boys it's really nice when there are toys that they can play with together. Ethan's mostly in to lego and computer games which are, unfortunately, not overly Oliver friendly (lego is one of the toy types which has to be played with in his room) but he does enjoy playing with figures too and this is something that they have started to do together.
And that's what came to mind when I was offered the chance to trial the Schleich Farm World Starter Set - Something for the boys to enjoy together.

Makeup Revolution 'Illuminating Fixing Spray' (coming soon) and I Heart Makeup 'Fast Love' palette from Tam beauty

A couple of bits from Tam beauty came through the letter box and other day and I was very excited to see what was inside - I've ordered a few bits from them recently, but didn't post about them because I wasn't doing so well health wise so it's nice to have some things to show you all. These were sent, completely by surprise, but I have been very happy with them and, so, looking forward to sharing my thoughts.

As a quick warning, this post is very very picture heavy, haha, but I think it's worth it!

Birchbox UK - Unboxing/Review - February 2017

It feels as though, some months, there's barely a fortnight between boxes - I'm not sure if that speaks of the erratic schedule that the box companies have or if it's just my inability to keep track of time, but either way it feels like barely any time since the January box arrived and here I am writing about February's offering.
As always, if you like the look of the box, and you decide to sign up, then you can use my code: https://www.birchbox.co.uk/invite/m6bv3 - I have really enjoyed this month's box and, based on a sneak peak, am already looking forward to March. Birchbox is the only box I've kept up, whilst all of the others (and there's been a few) have fallen by the way side. That's not to say that I think the boxes are perfect, some months are less inspiring than others, but I have consistently enjoyed them and there's always the odd month that blows me away.

If you feel the same way, and you sign up with my link (above) then we'll both get points to spend in the Birchbox shop which are a great way to make additional purchases (see a shop haul coming up in the next couple of weeks).

Foundation sponge or brush? Testing time with Brush Works

I was sent two products to test out, from Brush works, far too long ago. I was about to explain why it's taken me so long to write about them but, my goodness, it would be a long and pointless explanation. Needless to say, there's been lots of reasons why I've only just been able to put these two products to test, but I've really enjoyed putting them to the test now that I have been able to.

Colour Me Romantic - With Living Nature

'Living Nature' are a brand I've tried a few times in the past, I've really enjoyed their skincare, products which are full of certified natural ingredients, but have never tried any cosmetics by them before. Based on how much I like their skincare, though, I was really pleased to be given the chance to try out one of their lipsticks which currently features in the 'Colour Me Romantic' lipstick set.

My Super Simple, Minimalist Bullet Journal

If you haven't heard of Bullet Journals I'd be really surprised. The concept is everywhere at the moment and, to some, I'm sure it seems like a bit of a fad and you're waiting for the next craze to come along. But, this time, I can confidently tell you that there's good reason why Bullet Journalling has taken off in such a way, and why I think it's here to stay - It works. For so many people this style of planning is a real life changer and, I for one, can see myself using this system for the very, very long term.

A Chronic Health Update - Neuro, rheumy and now Gastro too!

I realised that I haven't done a health update in a little while so I thought I'd write a post to let you all know where I am - I won't go in to too much back story, if you want to know what's got me up to this point then you can see my previous posts, there's one from August 2016 here, and one from September 2016, here. The post may get a bit long so I'll write a quick conclusion towards the end just so that, if you don't have long, you can hop down there and get a simpler version.

Since last seeing my Neurologist I have had nerve testing to, finally, rule out Myasthaenia Gravis and I was pleased to discover that they were clear, so I don't have that. Previously ruling out MG meant that my neuro felt that it was Functional Neurological Disorder but he's not as sure, now, and wants me to see whether or not my Rheumatologist believes there could neurological complications with what I potentially have there. I'm not sure if I'm going to be signed off from my neuro, but for  now I'm not seeing him but if the rheumy stuff doesn't bring answers then I'll go back and ask again.

Regardless of what's happening - There's good things in life

Win 10 Simple Candle Company wax melts in my Giveaway

I've been ordering from Simple Candle Company for a little while, now, and for a good few months I was signed up to their subscription box service (see some posts here, and here), but I have put my subscription on hold for a while because I just have so many melts that it's getting silly.

Of course when you subscribe to a service, like that, you're going to get some scents which are less suited to you and I've got a nice little collection put to one side, now. I've saved a few for another giveaway which I have in the pipe line, but today I am starting my giveaway to win 10 beautiful smelling melts.

My January 2017 Primark Haul

I, genuinely, think it's a year or more since I last did a Primark haul! I just never manage to get to the store because I very rarely get to town, and on the times that I do it's because we've been to the hospital and I'm too exhausted to do actual shopping. I've seen so many wonderful primark posts and videos that I've really felt like I'm missing out so it was rather lovely to be able to get in to store, myself, for the first time in about a year!
I took Ethan as a treat, after his dentist appointment, so that he could get a couple of new t-shirts as we'd had a big clear out of his things and he had had to get rid of some real favourites. I also picked up some bits for myself, of course. I didn't get anything for Oliver as by the time we reached the baby section I was exhausted, and he's not lacking in clothes anyway haha!

Treat Box UK - January 2017 Unboxing / Review

It's the start of a New Year and the lovely people at Treat Box UK have made a box worthy of starting the year with new beginnings and resolution, with changes and plans for the future. As always it's clear that the box was beautifully curated and I am loving quite how much of the box contains the stunning print that has been made for this month.

I think this is my last box from my latest subscription so I may take a break, as I have a lot of lifestyle bits building up... or you may see me post again in February if I just can't make myself miss a box.

Jojoba Company 'Hydrating Day Cream' - My Thoughts

In this Winter weather good skincare can be even more important than normal, the cold weather can wreak havoc on even the best skin and extra moisture can make a world of difference. When I was asked to try the Jojoba Company 'Hydrating Day cream' it felt like the perfect thing to be using this Winter to keep my skin soft and stop it from drying out.

What I got in my Vintage Cosmetics Company and Sephora Advent Calendars - Christmas 2016

If you follow me on Instagram you'll already know what I got in my advent calendars as I did 4 update photos to share the contents, but if you don't I thought I'd do a quick overview so that if you are looking for a beauty advent, next year, you'll know how these two stood up against the competition.

The Books That I read in 2016

Another year, another book challenge. Thanks to one of my lovely friends I have been setting myself book challenges for many years, now, and it's been encouraging me to read more than I ever used to (and I've always been a big reader). Before my health got even worse, and before there was an Oliver, I was reading hundreds of books a year, but that's reduced somewhat now.

Still, I am continuing with these challenges because I like to feel that sense of achievement and I just love books. It's one of the few things I can do on the bad days, maybe not the worst days but the bad ones, and it's something that can, sometimes, distract from some of the harder things in life.

The Blogger quiz of the year - 2016 to 2017

Yes, I changed the title for my post, I'm awkward like that but I was already wanting to do a 2016-2017 type post but thought this was a nice way to be involved in something blogger related. Thanks to the lovely Vicky at 'Being Tilly's Mummy' for tagging me, doing this sort of post gives me some direction rather than just waffling on for the whole post.

I will probably do a little bit, towards the end, just about my thoughts on the year, but to the questions first!
